In order to discuss future cooperation and current issues in health care, on Tuesday, January 17, Minister of Health Līga MenĖelsone met with representatives of the Association of Young Doctors of Latvia (LJĀA).
Artūrs Šilovs, chairman of the board of the association, while introducing the activities of the organization, stated that among the priority issues in the industry are remuneration and changes in the remuneration system, quality of education and motivation of young doctors, residency financing and legal regulation, as well as the availability of health care specialists in the regions.
“All the issues mentioned by the association of young doctors are on the agenda of the Ministry of Health. Attracting and retaining young health care specialists is especially important, because the development of the industry’s human capital is very important – without professional doctors, nurses and medical assistants, we will not have a quality service. The meeting was dynamic and very inspiring. I see that the young doctors have a broad vision and know what quality of service we want in Latvia. Therefore, I very much hope for a successful dialogue in the future in order to solve the problems related to residents and residency with a higher degree of detail,” the minister emphasized.
It should be noted that the Minister of Health intends to continue meeting regularly with organizations representing health care specialists and other organizations, as well as to actively involve the non-governmental sector and professional organizations in the development of policy planning documents of the Ministry.
