World of Horror Video Game Review
World of Horror is like being alone in the computer room downstairs late at night, cautiously clicking through some danger-filled adventure game without hints about what lies ahead. World of Horror is every possible fear from that night.
― We’re certainly at no loss for modern throwbacks, those games that expertly summon the aesthetics of pixel-built classics from the 1980s and 1990s. We have retro-s…

Saint Tail Complete Collection Anime Blu-ray Disc Review
Saint Tail is a classic magical girl story and, frankly, a whole lot of charming fun.
― Saint Tail, based on the manga of the same name by Megumi Tachikawa (released by Tokyopop in the early 2000s and now sadly out of print), has had a tough time of it in English release. Before Discotek rescued and released it in this Blu-ray collection, the series saw four dubbed VHS tapes and five dual-language DV…

Exploring the Fist of the North Star 40th Anniversary Exhibition
What awaits fans beyond the bunker doors is the desolate world of 199X. A world where might makes right and gangs of musclebound men roam the wastelands.
― I am shock(!) that it’s the 40th anniversary of Tetsuo Hara and Buronson’s legendary series Fist of the North Star. As part of the celebration, the Mori Arts Center Gallery is holding an exhibition featuring over 400 pieces of the original manuscr…

Mieruko-chan Anthology Comic Manga Review
It’s a new set of spooky tales in the Mieruko-chan Anthology Comic, including works from Michiru Noroi, Yakan Nabeya, Aki Mizuki, and more!
― Allowing other authors to play in a given world is a dicey proposition. Not only are you asking for their take on an established story, but you’re doing so with the understanding that their vision of it may not be exactly what original series fans are looking f…

Little Goody Two-Shoes Game Review
With ten endings, yuri romance options, and unsettling horror Little Goody Two-Shoes deserves a spot in your visual novel library.
― The first thing you’ll likely notice about Little Goody Two-Shoes is the name and its apparent juxtaposition with Elise’s character. Today, we use the phrase “goody two-shoes” to describe someone who is sanctimoniously perfect, which comes from the 18th-century children…
The Case For Remaking .hack//IMOQ
With more people than ever talking about the idea of the first .hack game series making a potential comeback, it’s worth examining why so many people want more of this iconic 20-year-old JPRG.
― Years before there was Log Horizon, Sword Art Online, or even Stay Alive, .hack told compelling stories set against the backdrop of MMORPG players being trapped in a game—or in some cases, being made comatose…
