Key Facts

“Wu-Tang Clan: The Saga Continues… The Las Vegas Residency” will begin at the Theatre at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on Feb. 9 and 10 and continue on March 22 and 23.

Branded as “a Wu-Tang experience like never before,” Virgin Hotels said the show will serve “as a tribute to their prolific careers as individuals and as the most storied group in hip-hop history.”

Leader of the group RZA told the New York Times the residency has been in the works for around five years and is “meant in part to elevate the genre” of hip hop.

Pre-sale for the residency begins Tuesday at noon PST, and regular sale begins at 10 a.m. PST on Friday.

What To Watch For

More dates are set to be announced in coming months.

Surprising Fact

Wu-Tang Clan could be the first hip-hop residency in Las Vegas, according to the New York Times, which reported it’s “unclear” whether a hip-hop group has had a traditional residency in the city since residencies rose in popularity in the 1940s.

Tangent

Las Vegas residencies had a strong year in 2023. U2 began its residency at The Sphere—a new building that had been in the works for almost five years and reportedly cost more than $2 billion to build—and tickets started at $140 with fees, though resale tickets are going for thousands. Adele also had a residency this year—“Weekends with Adele”—in Las Vegas that began last November and has been extended through June next year. Though it’s not yet known how much revenue her residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace generated, Billboard estimated, based on initial ticket sales, Adele would take home $2 million from each show. Katy Perry, one of Forbes’ richest self-made women in America, also had a residency this year at Resorts World that started in 2021 and ended in November after 80 shows; that residency reportedly grossed $168 million. Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Donny Osmond, Carrie Underwood and Maroon 5 also had Las Vegas residencies this past year.

Big Number

$30.7 million. That’s how much revenue U2’s first 17 shows, running through Nov. 30, brought to the Sphere—which comes to an average of $1.8 million per concert, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The residency continues through March 2024 and has 23 shows not included in that revenue total.

Key Background

Wu-Tang Clan just finished its “N.Y. State of Mind Tour” with rapper Nas that traveled through North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and ran from May through October. The group did a similar tour in 2022 from August to October. Wu-Tang Clan began in Staten Island, New York in 1992 and is known for hits including “C.R.E.A.M” and “Protect Ya Neck.”
