Valentine’s Day tours and postcards dedicated to the theme of love in the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Center”

From February 11 to 19, during the week of all lovers, the museum “Riga Art Nouveau Center” invites you to Valentine’s Day excursions and an exhibition of postcards dedicated to the theme of love. Visitors will be delighted by the interior decorated in pink tones, romantic flower arrangements and taking photos in the Art Nouveau photo salon.

Every year in February, the “Riga Art Nouveau Center” museum invites you to celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day, to remember the traditions of this holiday during the Art Nouveau period, and to take a look at the museum’s collection. Also this year, Riga residents and guests will be able to see a collection of romantic postcards, tea and coffee tables covered with exquisite porcelain. On the other hand, on the thematic excursions on Saint Valentine’s Day, February 14 at At 14.00 and 17.00 you will be able to learn about the traditions of sending postcards in the 20th century. at the beginning, the language of stamps and the hidden message clothed in it. An interior decorated with flower compositions will create a romantic mood. Museum visitors are invited to take photos in the museum’s photo salon, where there will be both luxurious Art Nouveau hats and various Valentine’s Day accessories – flowers, a book of poetry and others. Postcards dedicated to the theme of love will be on display at the museum until February 28.
The traditions of the Saint Valentine’s Day celebration began as early as the 3rd century and are wrapped in legends about the clergyman Valentine and his secretly married couples. In the ballads of the English medieval poets, the verses dedicated to love gave this holiday a new meaning. Today, the heart-shaped postcard that is so common was sent for the first time in 1415, when Charles, Duke of Orléans, sent one to his wife from the Tower of London prison. Over time, heart-shaped postcards have been decorated with lace and ribbons. Sending them was so popular in England during Queen Victoria’s time that up to 400,000 greetings were sent in honor of St. Valentine’s Day. You will be able to learn about these and other historically significant facts of the day of all lovers during Valentine’s Day excursions at the Riga Art Nouveau Center museum.
