Travis Scott faces legal action over his planned performance at the Pyramids of Giza as the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate attempts to cancel the event.

Egypt’s Syndicate of Musical Professions is suing Travis Scott’s planned Utopia event in Giza, hoping to prevent the concert from happening.

On July 16, Egyptian lawyer Amr Abdelsalam appeared on Memri TV to discuss the syndicate’s decision to sue the rapper ahead of his highly-anticipated event, citing “satanic rites” performed at his concerts. Abdelsalam alleged that Scott’s show was canceled on Monday, but Live Nation has refuted these claims.

“This singer has a black record; he is known to be a staunch supporter of global freemasonry and the Afrocentric organization that opposes Egyptian identity and heritage. We have taken all the legal measures to prevent this show,” said the Egyptian lawyer.

“In his shows, the American rapper performs the full range of satanic rites (…) the well-being of Egyptian citizens is more important to us than holding such a show and justifying it by saying that we need to invigorate tourism.”

“This rapper (has been) banned from singing and holding shows in the US since 2021,” he continued. “In his latest show, dozens were killed, and hundreds were injured. Eyewitnesses documented that the type of music he was playing radiated negative energy, and bizarre things happened to people who attended the show.”

Travis Scott’s team has denied the reports and claims made by Memri TV and echoed Live Nation’s statement that the show is continuing as scheduled. Earlier this month, the 32-year-old Scott announced that the sold-out launch event for his forthcoming album Utopia would take place live in Giza on July 28, posting that “Utopia is wherever you are.”

In addition to revealing the location of the launch event, Travis also posted three accompanying trailers for the upcoming release, each post featuring cities significant to the rapper: Malibu, California; Miraval, France; and his hometown of Houston, Texas.
