Tottenham’s current owners would demand a ‘sky high’ bid to sell the club amid rumours of a takeover bid in the works for the north London side, it has been claimed.
Rumours circulated on Wednesday morning that Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi was readying a £3.1 billion bid to buy the Lilywhites out from unpopular owners ENIC, who Spurs fans have aimed chants at in recent weeks demanding that they leave.
According to the Financial Times, ‘Najafi is working with a consortium of investors to structure the bid and is weeks away from formally approaching Joe Lewis & Daniel Levy’ with an offer.
As per Sky Sports, however, ‘there has been no approach to Tottenham and no contact with the proposed bidders’, and ‘only a sky-high offer would tempt ENIC, the group that owns Spurs, to sell and that would need to be considerably more than the £2.5bn the consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital paid for London rivals Chelsea in May last year.’
Meanwhile, Football.London add that Tottenham are valued at over £4bn by those in charge, and that though they have been canvassing for potential minority investment, they reiterate that they have no interest in selling the club.
Should an offer over £4bn offer come in, it would make Tottenham the most expensive Sports Team in history, a title currently held by the Denver Broncos, who were sold for £3.8bn in 2022.
Manchester United and Liverpool are both up for sale at present, with the Glazers set to demand as much as £5 billion in order to part ways with Manchester United amid interest from Qatari investors, as well as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and even reportedly Elon Musk.
