Tory Lanez denies all charges following a 10-year prison sentence: “I have always maintained my innocence, and I always will.”

Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is denying all charges following the 10-year prison sentence he received for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, in the feet after a Los Angeles party at Kylie Jenner’s house in July of 2020 — despite taking responsibility before the sentencing.

“I have never let a hard time intimidate me; I will never never let no jail time eliminate me,” writes Lanez on Instagram in a post addressed to his fanbase, the Umbrellas. “Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence, and I always will.”

“This week in court, I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved… That’s it,” he clarifies. “In no way, shape, or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”

Lanez pleaded not guilty to assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered gun in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. However, a jury convicted him in December. On Tuesday, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility. I truly am just trying to be a better person,” said Lanez, addressing the court before receiving his sentence, saying he took full responsibility for the shooting and that “if I could change it, I would, but I can’t.”

But his Instagram post on Thursday tells a different story. The rapper said he would continue to fight until “I come out victorious,” thanking friends, family, and fans for their continued support; Lanez and his legal team plan to appeal the sentence and conviction.

Megan testified during the trial that Lanez shouted for her to dance as he fired a gun toward her feet while they walked away from an SUV they rode in together from a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house in Los Angeles. Initially, Megan told police she had cut her feet on glass because she didn’t want to reveal who had fired the gun and that there had been a gun in the car.

Megan Thee Stallion, who references the shooting incident in her song “Shots Fired,” testified that she still has nerve damage and “can’t really feel” the back of her left foot.
