Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond are not over just yet. A fourth season of the beloved Apple TV+ series is closer to becoming a reality, with the studio securing option pickups for three key cast members.
Warner Bros. Television has reportedly secured options on three original cast members: Hannah Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton; Brett Goldstein, who portrays footballer Roy Kent; and Jeremy Swift, who stars as Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins. All three actors had been represented by UK acting union Equity, sources told Deadline on August 24.
The studio is now expected to reach out to Ted Lasso cast members with SAG-AFTRA contracts whose options have expired to negotiate new deals, according to the site. The list supposedly includes co-creators/executive producers Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) and Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), as well as Juno Temple (Keeley Jones). Many cast members have said that they would be excited to reprise their roles for another installment.
Sources also told the site that Season 4 is contingent “on budget approval and scheduling as actors whose options have lapsed may have joined other series that have them in first position,” Deadline reported. If all goes well, production could start in early 2025.
What Have Jason Sudeikis And The Cast Said About Ted Lasso Season 4?
Ahead of the Season 3 premiere, Sudeikis mentioned that the original plan for Ted Lasso was to be three seasons. “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell,” the 48-year-old actor told Deadline in March 2023.
At the time, he didn’t dismiss the possibility of spinoffs. “Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories,” he said.
However, while speaking recently with Collider in August 2024, co-creator Bill Lawrence admitted that continuing Ted Lasso is something the crew would be excited about because of the positive experience of making the English football comedy.
“Groupthink sometimes happens, even without talking to each other, and every actor, actress, writer, producer on that show — and [we didn’t get] together and decide this was the message — we all loved the experience,” he said.

Lawrence noted that the decision hinges on Sudeikis, particularly since he has young children and the role involves relocating to a foreign country. Sudeikis has two kids: his 10-year-old son Otis and his 7-year-old daughter Daisy.
“Not only is he the star, he’s the head writer, and he’s also the dude whose life just has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children,” Lawrence continued. “It’s a big deal. So, as a fan, if someone’s like, ‘Oh, it’s gonna happen again,’ I’ll go nuts. As a partner, I’m down for whatever he wants to do.”
Ted Lasso is Apple’s most-watched original series, boasting 13 Emmy Awards over its three-season run. Stay tuned to learn more details about Season 4.
