Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ concert film is heading to Disney+, including fan favorite ‘cardigan’ and four songs previously unreleased in the theatrical or video-on-demand editions.

Taylor Swift’s celebrated Eras Tour concert film is headed to Disney+ in a special edition exclusively available on the service beginning on March 15. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) will include the fan favorite song “cardigan” as well as four acoustic songs previously not included in the theatrical or video-on-demand releases.

Disney CEO Bob Iger broke the news during the company’s earnings call on Wednesday (February 7). “The Eras Tour has been a true phenomenon that has and continues to thrill fans around the world, and we are very excited to bring this electrifying concert to audiences wherever they are, exclusively on Disney+,” said Iger.

The decision to partner with Disney+ means fans who already subscribe to the service won’t have to pay yet another fee to see the film again. But fans who aren’t subscribers will be keen to do so, something Iger is banking on.

The concert film proved to be one of the biggest box office sensations of 2023, taking the crown for top-grossing concert documentary movie of all time. It grossed over $180 million domestically and nearly $81 million internationally for more than $261.1 million in total.

The Eras Tour film was among the movies up for consideration for the first Golden Globe award for best cinematic and box office achievement, though Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film won the inaugural award. Films are eligible for the category if they earn at least $150 million at the worldwide box office, including $100 million or more in North America.

Using AMC Theatres to distribute the film rather than the traditional movie studio system was unorthodox, but arguably so was the film itself — and Swift proved her business savvy yet again by taking the road less traveled. AMC would also distribute Beyonce’s Renaissance concert film shortly thereafter.

During its box office run, The Eras Tour greatly benefitted from repeated viewership, only showing Thursday through Sunday and attracting Swifties in droves. Its video-on-demand run also proved lucrative, though some fans balked at the comparatively steep rental price.
