Last week, Canadian police arrested a man accused of making death threats against Lana Del Rey ahead of the singer-songwriter’s performance at the Festival d’été de Québec. Now, after a brief stint in jail, the individual has been released.

Regional outlets including CTV News Montreal reported on the initial arrest following a French-language piece from Noovo Info. For reference, 38-year-old Lana Del Rey played the mentioned Quebec City music festival this past Saturday, with the Foo Fighters, Weezer, Pitbull, Green Day, and a number of others having likewise entertained attendees at the multiday happening.

Before the Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd creator’s set at the annual happening, however, police in late June received a complaint about the alleged threats and quickly opened an investigation.

At the time of writing, it was unclear precisely what this individual (reportedly a 40-year-old New Brunswick man named Denys Mallet) had said or written to prompt the complaint and his arrest. But according to a quote from the indictment, Mallet had “‘knowingly made threats to cause death or bodily harm to L.D.R.’” in Quebec City as well as different parts of Canada between January 1st, 2022, and July 6th of this year.

(Once again at the time of this writing, an Instagram account bearing the same name as the alleged criminal, featuring a collection of muddled posts and a bio mentioning Lana Del Rey, remained live. Additionally, the “Summertime Sadness” act’s own profile was private.)

Per CTV, Mallet was arrested on or around Friday and ordered to stay behind bars pending a hearing today. And according to Google’s translation of a newly penned (and very brief) update from Noovo Info, the presiding judge granted the defendant bail.

Predictably, though, the now-free Mallet must abstain from further mentioning Del Rey on social media or approaching the New York City native in person. More broadly, the alleged death threats against the six-time Grammy nominee have entered the media spotlight on the heels of multiple artist attacks.

One month back, Bebe Rexha received emergency medical attention after being struck in the face with a cell phone thrown by an attendee at a concert in the Big Apple. Later in June, Ava Max was slapped by a purported fan in another on-stage attack. Then, Harry Styles was in July hit with a projectile during a show in Venice, and a different attendee yet decided to throw a cell phone at Drake.
