LATVIA : From June 20 to June 25, 2023, the “Riga Art Nouveau Center” museum invites you to feel the mood of the summer solstice by viewing the interior of an apartment decorated with St. John’s wort. In order to get to know more about the aesthetics of the Art Nouveau period and the diverse traditions of celebrating holidays, it is complemented by the collection of festive postcards from the museum’s collection that can be viewed in the virtual environment www.jugendstils.riga.lv. It will be possible to download the postcards for sending electronically until June 29.
Nature motifs and stylized plant decorations are an important part of the Art Nouveau interior. The daisy motif in the living room of the “Rīgas Jugendstila centrs” museum inspires and allows you to feel the summer mood of the Latvian meadow all year round. The range of green tones in the fireplace room with chestnut fruits, pine needle motifs in the dining room, the pink scent of roses in the bedroom – museum visitors have fallen in love with it and felt it as an organic presence of natural motifs in an Art Nouveau home. Traditionally, during the holidays, the museum is decorated with St. John’s Halls – real daisies and irises bloom in the interior, and the smell of honeysuckle. They remind us of the sun’s course towards its highest point and encourage visitors to think about the Art Nouveau love for nature. Festive postcards from the museum’s collection have been published in the virtual exhibition dedicated to the theme of St. John’s Day. They allow you to feel the 20th century. in the mood of the beginning of Ligo and St. John’s Day. The celebration is unimaginable without a bonfire, flowers and singing children. Folk songs and verses of Latvian poets can be read in the openings, which create a true and sincere festive mood.
