Tarot—a horror movie hit in theaters worldwide this summer—is also a hit with Netflix viewers.
Tarot tells the story of a group of college friends who become cursed when they use an ancient Tarot card deck connected to a malevolent force known as “The Astrologer.” As a result of not heeding the warning to never use another person’s tarot card deck, ghoulish figures from each of the cards come to life to kill their victims one by one.
According to The Numbers, Tarot—which was released in theaters on May 3—made nearly $18.8 million domestically and $30.2 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $49 million. While the total might not seem like a lot, it’s an impressive number considering the film’s production budget was $8 million before prints and advertising.
Written and directed by the filmmaking team of Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen, Tarot, which is rated PG-13, debuted at No. 5 on Netflix’s Top 10 U.S. Movies chart for the week of July 29-August 4.
Produced by Scott Glassgold and starring Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika and Jacob Batalon, Tarot made its debut on Netflix on August 1.
Topping Netflix’s U.S. chart for the week of July 29-August 4 is the animated hit Trolls Band Together, which is in its third week on the streamer.

Unlike Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movie charts, the streaming service does release viewership numbers for its U.S. top 10.
