Snoop Dogg is canceling his upcoming 30th-anniversary Hollywood Bowl show to stand in solidarity with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Previously the rapper postponed his plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his album Doggystyle with two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. Those shows were initially rescheduled, but as the strike has worn on the rapper released an update on social media to let fans know the Hollywood Bowl concerts would be canceled instead of postponed.
The Snoop Dogg Hollywood Bowl shows were initially supposed to take place on June 27 and June 28. Replacement dates were scheduled for October 20 and 21, but strike negotiations are not going anywhere fast.
“We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing strike and the uncertainty of when this will be over, we need to cancel the Hollywood Bowl show,” the announcement reads. “We continue to stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in the WGA and SAG/AFTRA during this difficult time and remain hopeful that AMPTP will come back to the negotiating table with a REAL proposal so we can all get back to work.”
The Hollywood Bowl concerts will see Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre team up with conductor Derrick Hodge and the ReCollective Orchestra to perform new renditions of Doggystyle tracks. Snoop and Dr. Dre also have plans to release a new album called Missionary later this year—it’s unclear whether those release plans are impacted or not. No information about ticket refunds has been provided.
The Writers Guild of America voted in March to go on strike in May, with actors from the SAG/AFTRA guild joining them soon after. SAG/AFTRA says studios demanded the right to scan background actors using AI and to retain rights to their likeness in perpetuity, including replacing real background actors without any further compensation for the use of their image.
