Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed Tottenham Hotspur will never win the Premier League.
Spurs have only won two league titles in their entire history and have not conquered England since 1961. Their last trophy came in 2008 when they won the EFL Cup against Chelsea, and though they are the joint-third most successful club in the FA Cup, they have not taken that home since 1991.
Sky Sports Racing presenter Matt Chapman – a Tottenham fan – asked Ferguson if Spurs would ever win the Premier League during a recent visit to a racecourse.
“No,” Ferguson simply replied before bursting into laughter.
“When was the last time they won it? That’s a long time. But the opposition today with Liverpool and Man City being so powerful in the Premier League, even for United we’re having to fight.”

Chapman then suggested Tottenham are currently more likely to win the league than Ferguson’s beloved United, to which he retorted: “No chance.”
United can close the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to nine points with a win at Aston Villa on Sunday. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last five games across all competitions, with the only slip-up in that time coming in a 2-2 draw at home to Spurs.
Tottenham beat Erik ten Hag’s United 2-0 on the second weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League season to kick-start their new era under Ange Postecoglou, who is still adamant his side can finish first this term.
When told Opta’s ‘supercomputer’ rated Spurs’ chances of winning the league this year at less than 0.1%, Postecoglou replied: “A supercomputer! Does it go to a phone booth and change into something else from just a normal computer?
“What did it say, 0.1%? So we got a chance then. Let’s go for it. No problems, no issues with that, we’ve got a chance!”
