On Saturday, Latvian goalkeeper Artūrs Šilovs did not save Vancouver “Canucks” from losing to the leader of the National Hockey League (NHL), Boston “Bruins”, whose last puck was sent into an empty net by his brother Līnus Ullmarks.
“Canucks” lost to the Bostonians at home with the score 1:3 (0:2, 0:0, 1:1).
In this duel, Shilov saved 32 of 34 shots, 20 of which were made in the first period, and was awarded the second star of the game. Ullmark, who caught 26 innings, was rated higher than him.
Less than three minutes before the end of the first period, Shilov was beaten by Hampus Lindholm, who mostly shot without stopping the puck. 35 seconds before the break, Brad Marchand strengthened the visitors’ lead with a solo move on the counterattack.
In the eighth minute of the third period, after the Bostonians did not throw the puck out of their defensive zone, Brock Besser made it 1-2 with a shot from in front of the goal.
With hopes of a comeback, Shilov was replaced by the sixth field player at the end of the match, and 48 seconds before the final whistle, Ullmark sent the puck into the goal with a shot across all zones. The Swede became the 13th goaltender in history to score a goal in the NHL.
In his debut season, Shilov participated in four matches, in which he celebrated two victories, allowed an average of 2.73 innings and saved 90.8% of shots.
With 51 points in 59 games, the “Canucks” are in 12th place in the Western Conference, while the “Bruins” are first not only in the Eastern Conference, but also in the entire league, with 95 points in 58 games.
