Shakira is the headliner for this year’s public concert on Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, following Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025.
On Wednesday, Colombian star Shakira was selected as this year’s headliner for the third edition of the public concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, “Todo Mundo no Rio.” Rio’s city hall and the state government will formally announce the news at a press conference on Thursday.
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes posted a video of Shakira on his social media with a caption indicating her performance was confirmed, without providing additional details. Those familiar with the production said the mayor’s post definitely referred to the upcoming public concert.
The move makes Shakira the third global superstar to headline the festival, following Madonna in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025. Madonna’s concert drew 1.6 million people to Brazil, which set a record for the largest audience to see a single artist perform. Lady Gaga’s show drew more than 2 million people to the beach and was estimated to inject $115.71 million (600 million reais) into the city’s local economy.
This year, Todo Mundo no Rio—now one of the city’s biggest events for international tourism—is expected to kick off on May 2. However, unlike Madonna and Lady Gaga before her, Shakira has actually performed in Brazil in recent years. That could mean she won’t be as big a draw for an international crowd.
Over the weekend, Shakira suffered a fall during a performance in San Salvador in which she twisted her ankle and fell onto her elbow. Despite gasps from concerned fans, the 49-year-old quickly got back up and continued the song (“Si Te Vas”) as fans and her guitarist cheered her on.
Afterward, Shakira took to Instagram to assure fans she was fine, poking fun at the incident with a caption in Spanish: “Don’t worry, I’m made of rubber.”
The show, part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, was her first stop in San Salvador. This weekend, she will wrap up in the city before heading to Mexico, and then finishing up the tour in Abu Dhabi on April 4.
