Selena Gomez has a new album coming soon, but the star says she’d rather focus on her acting career over her music career.
Speaking in an episode of the ‘Smartless’ podcast with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, the singer spoke about finding her place in the broader entertainment industry. She says she “feels like I have one more album in me” but in a perfect world, she would “choose acting.” Gomez is also the CEO of her cosmetics line, Rare Beauty.
“I started having a lot of fun with music and then touring was really fun,” the singer tells the hosts. “But I was doing my TV show at the same time (Wizards of Waverly Place) and I just found it really fun so I just kept going but the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, I would like to find something to just settle on,” Gomez admits.
Selena Gomez also revealed the heavy toll that touring took on her, with her heavy workload. “I went to a mental institute and canceled one of my tours,” she says of the challenges she faced. “I just got to me because I love working, it distracts me from bad things.” Gomez told the hosts she’s at a point in her life where she wants to pick one thing and stick with it.
“I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting,” she admits. She also discusses working with Disney on the kid’s show and how they molded and shaped her early career. “They know how to package someone and make it a whole triple threat thing,” she says. After singing the theme song for Wizards, Disney asked Gomez if she wanted to record an album.
“I wanted to be an actress, I never really intended on being a singer full-time but apparently that hobby turned into something else,” she continues. “I don’t think I’m the best singer, but I do know how to tell stories and I love being able to make songs.”
