AS “Latvijas pasts” in cooperation with the associations “Mēs Iecavai” and “Tavi draugi” has already started the third campaign “Knitting in support of Ukraine”. Until March 17, it is possible to donate knitting at all post offices, according to representatives of “Latvijas pasta”.
The campaign “Knitting in support of Ukraine” resumes at the request of the Ukrainian side – currently it is especially important to help soldiers stay and maintain their positions at the front, so in this round of the campaign it is especially invited to knit socks, gloves, scarves, hats for adults.
Beāte Bēvalde, the representative of the association “Tavi draugi” states that last fall and winter, the warehouse of the association at Ventspils street 50, Riga, became a transit point for thousands of knitwear from all over Latvia on the way to Ukraine, where they were transported by the association’s cargo or with the help of other organizations. We are currently receiving new requests for knits, but are out of stock.
Lauma Neimane, the representative of the “Mēs Iecavai” association, says that back warmers, special button-down socks for the wounded, soldiers’ gloves and socks will still be useful for donations.
“Latvijas pasts” will deliver the knitted items donated in the campaign free of charge to the association “Tavi draugi”. On the package with the knitting delivered to the post office, the following should be written: Akcija Adijui, Eksprespastas, Ziemeku iela 10, Mārupe district.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, two knitting campaigns in support of Ukraine have already taken place.
The last of them began in September 2022 and ended at the end of the year, calling for donations of handicrafts of various types and sizes, which are needed by Ukrainian soldiers at the front, peaceful residents in devastated cities and other populated areas, and war refugees. Latvian residents donated 5100 kilograms of knitwear during the campaign and handed over 5,100 kilograms of knitwear to post offices.
