Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has revealed he would be excited to play alongside Kylian Mbappe should he join the club from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
Mbappe’s contract at PSG expires at the end of the season and he is yet to make a decision on his future. 90min understands he has an agreement with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he will be the first to know once his mind is made up.
Sources have also told 90min that PSG are relaxed about the situation as they stand to make up to €80m back from Mbappe in loyalty bonuses and other variables if he leaves this summer due to a complicated legal arrangement. This money could then be spent on a replacement, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko on their shortlist.
With speculation rumbling on regarding a move to Madrid, Rodrygo has endorsed the club’s pursuit of Mbappe.
“If Kylian Mbappe comes, he will help us. He is one of the best in the world. I want to play with the best players of course, but I can’t say more on this topic,” he said.
This is not the first time that Rodrygo has backed Madrid to sign Mbappe from PSG. Last summer, he referenced the Frenchman when asked about the possibility of playing alongside Harry Kane, who would go on to join Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur later that transfer window.
“At Real Madrid, it’s very complicated, there are always rumours and this year there were rumours about Harry Kane,” he said at the time.
“When I arrived in Madrid there was a lot of talk about [Paul] Pogba coming, so I don’t have any information, we have to wait and see. Of course, I hope Mbappe comes because he will help us a lot. He is a real star, but we really don’t know anything.”
