On August 9 and 10 of this year, the eighth Riga Burger Festival will take place in Esplanade Park – two days during which the center of Riga will be filled with a celebration of burgers, grills and street food. Burger joints and restaurants from all over Latvia will participate in the festival, informs the balticevents.info portal.
The program is extensive: the opportunity to taste dozens of different burgers, follow culinary competitions, attend grilling master classes and enjoy musical performances. This year, the special guest will be Žoržs Siksna. Traditionally, the “Best Burger of the Festival” will also be determined, which will be judged by a specially formed jury.
Before the festival, the selection of participants for the burger speed-eating competition will take place, but during the festival, the 12 fastest will compete in the semi-finals and finals for the title “Latvia’s Fastest Burger Eater” – the “Burger Speed-Eating Competition”. The organizers invite everyone to participate in the selection, which takes place every weekday from 14.00 to 17.00 at Stabu Street 30 at the festival participant “Meaet Daddy”.
Those who want to show their excellent burger recipe are given the opportunity to participate in the competition, following the organizers’ criteria and using the special potato burger bun.
The festival has an extensive program for the whole family, including children’s activities: “From the beginning it was a one-day event. Today it is already a two-day annual family festival, which is attended by more than ten thousand people,” says festival organizer Edgars Svencis.”
As every year, the festival will host a festive concert with local musicians – this year Žoržs Siksna will perform. In previous years, “Bad Habit”, Pētersons, the band Keksi, Ufo, Mārtiņš Balodis and others have also taken to the stage.
Throughout the two days, the festival territory will feature shows, musical entertainment from Latvia’s best DJs, audience competitions and, of course, a proper feast with the best burgers from all over Latvia.
