Global Citizen has announced headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ms. Lauryn Hill for this year’s Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, with performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Conan Gray, and Stray Kids.
International advocacy organization Global Citizen has announced the 2023 Global Citizen Festival on Saturday, September 23, at the Great Lawn of Central Park in New York City. The free, ticketed event will drive action to end extreme poverty, headlined by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ms. Lauryn Hill, with performances from Megan Thee Stallion, Conan Gray, and Stray Kids.
The 2023 Global Citizen Festival campaign aims to address the major issues perpetuating extreme poverty, including the impacts of climate change on the Global South, the inequities affecting women and girls worldwide, and the global hunger crisis.
The event is being held to coincide with and demand urgent action from world leaders gathering in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Tickets to the 2023 Global Citizen Festival are free and can be earned by joining the movement and fulfilling a task on the Global Citizen app or their website as part of the organization’s initiative to raise awareness about poverty, hunger, climate change, and inequities facing women and girls worldwide.
“COP27, this year’s G7, the World Bank Spring Meetings, and the Paris climate finance summit all failed to deliver tangible results or disruption of the world’s unjust systems,” says Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen.
“But complacency can’t win. If we want to see breakthroughs on development and climate change, we need the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and all G7 nations to meet the urgency of the hour. Every single citizen has a vital role to play, and together, we must be laser-focused on driving results and impact in September.
The Central Park event follows the heels of a similar concert in France, Power Our Planet: Live in Paris, which featured Billie Eilish, Finneas, Lenny Kravitz, Jon Batiste, H.E.R., and Ben Harper performing in front of the Eiffel Tower. The show coincided with and was held to put pressure for change on the Summit for a New Financial Pact.
