Queens of the Stone Age cancel their remaining 2024 tour dates as frontman Josh Homme receives ‘essential medical care.’
Queens of the Stone Age reveal that frontman Josh Homme is receiving medical care, and the band is canceling the remaining 2024 dates of their tour so he can take care of his health. The band took to the former Twitter on Friday, August 23, to announce the cancellation, though it looks like some dates will be rescheduled next year.
“QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows,” wrote the band. “Josh has been given no choice but to prioritize his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year.”
“Festival ticket holders are advised to visit specific event sites for updated information,” the band’s announcement continues. “Ticket holders for QOTSA shows will be contacted by point of purchase with further information about the new dates.”
The news comes about a month after the band cancelled its European tour dates, as the 51-year-old Homme had to return to the US to undergo emergency surgery. At the time, Queens of the Stone Age cancelled eight shows.
Though the band hasn’t divulged many details about Homme’s condition, the frontman revealed during a June 2023 interview with Revolver that he was diagnosed with cancer one year prior, and said he had a successful surgery to remove it.
“I never say it can’t get any worse. I never say that, and I wouldn’t advise it. But I do say it can get better,” said Homme. “Cancer is just the cherry on top of an interesting time period, you know? I’m extremely thankful that I’ll get through this, and I’ll look back at this as something that’s f—ed up — but will have made me better. I’m cool with that; there’s a lot of stuff I want to do, and there’s a lot of people I want to do that with.”
Homme has not revealed the type of cancer with which he was diagnosed. Queens of the Stone Age released their latest album, In Times New Roman… in July 2023.
