Golf is a game of inches. The most important are the six inches between your ears.
Despite being the only male golfer to complete the Grand Slam by winning all four majors in the same calendar year, Bobby Jones still understood the importance of the mental aspect of the game.
Golf is hard. It can be frustrating. One shot can be the best of the round and the next can be the worst.
With a record 47.2 million combined on- and off-course participants age 6+ in the U.S. last year according to the National Golf Foundation, making the game easier and more accessible has become priority No. 1 for brands looking to meet this unprecedented demand and interest.
That’s why PXG unveiled its new Wildcat club collection, engineered to make it easier for novice and occasional golfers to make contact with the ball and understand the purpose of each club, ultimately improving their overall learning experience in the course.
“Why make a difficult game harder than it needs to be?” PXG chief product officer Brad Schweigert said. “This line plays a crucial role in ‘growing the game’ by providing beginner-friendly equipment that promotes confidence and ease of use. By making golf equipment more fun and straightforward for new players, we aim to encourage more people to engage with the sport.”
The titanium Wildcat driver features 16 degrees of loft—significantly higher than the typical range of 9-10.5 degrees—standard 44 inches of length, internal perimeter weighting and a “confidence-inspiring” large face and head profile to facilitate easier impact, high launch and maximum distance.
The Wildcat fairway wood and hybrid feature a larger top profile and a squared face design with increased offset which makes them more approachable and easier to hit. The line’s irons feature a dual cavity design including a weight-saving insert in the outer and a polymer-filled inner which removes mass from the center of the club to enhance forgiveness on mishits that occur high or low on the face, while delivering low spin.
The PXG Wildcat club line is engineered for novice and occasional golfers.
The Wildcat club line features a driver, 5-wood, 6-hybrid, 7-iron through sand wedge (SW) and putter. Clubs can be purchased individually ($149/iron) or as a complete nine-club set for $1,499, which also comes with a bag, hat and one dozen golf balls.
“This pricing positions the Wildcat line as an affordable option compared to other PXG lines while maintaining the brand’s commitment to high performance,” Schweigert said. “These clubs are an ideal upgrade for golfers who are using traditional box sets or an ill-fitted hand-me-down set.”
The Wildcat line will be part of PXG club fittings moving forward as the brand helps guide golfers with personalized equipment recommendations suited for their individual needs, skills and goals.
While beginner golf club sets are nothing new, engineering products and clubs specifically for the game’s growing audience continues to be a priority for manufacturers looking to make novice and occasional golfers feel more excited and confident, which will ultimately further their interest and investment in the sport.
In August, Topgolf launched the Sure Thing club. Designed in collaboration with Callaway engineers, the non-conforming modified driver features a 20-degree loft to get the ball in the air easier, larger club face for better contact and a shorter shaft for increased control.
