PSG vs Borussia Dortmund

One of the biggest games of matchday 1 in the Champions League this season sees Borussia Dortmund head to the French capital to take on Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

With the other two teams in this group, AC Milan and Newcastle United, facing off in the early kick-off slot, PSG and Dortmund are going to have a clearer idea of what they are up against and what a victory would mean for the table.

Both sides have endured disappointing starts to the season. Dortmund have dropped points against Bochum and Heidenheim while PSG come into Tuesday’s contest having lost 3-2 at home to Nice on Friday.

Here is all that you need to know about the Champions League clash between PSG and Borussia Dortmund.

There are plenty of injury concerns for Luis Enrique coming into what will be a very pressurised game. Thankfully for him, Kylian Mbappe was fit enough to face Nice, scoring twice in defeat.

Enrique does have plenty of absentees though, with Marco Asensio, Nordi Mukiele, and Nuno Mendes missing out. Fabian Ruiz and Presnel Kimpembe are also serious doubts, with Lee Kang-in and goalkeeping duo Sergio Rico and Alexandre Letellier sidelined as well.

While PSG have got almost a whole starting XI out injured at the moment, things are not as bad for Borussia Dortmund in that regard. There are some absentees for the German side to work around, though.

Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey are both going to be out for at least the rest of this month, while Julien Duranville is not expected to play any part in this one. Giovanni Reyna will also miss out, but players like Niclas Fullkrug, Julian Ryerson and Gregor Kobel made returns from injury against Freiburg at the weekend.

Borussia Dortmund predicted lineup vs PSG (4-3-3): Kobel; Wolf, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Sabitzer, Can, Brandt; Malen, Haller, Reus

One of the hardest teams to judge in the Champions League group stages each year is Borussia Dortmund. They can play like the best team in the world in one game and bumble around as though they’re in the wrong tournament during the next.

PSG need a big start in the Champions League with such a tough group, so there could be an incredible pace to this one with a lot of goals. This should be the game of choice for the neutrals on Tuesday evening.

Prediction: PSG 3-2 Borussia Dortmund
