Paris Saint-Germain have added Barcelona midfielder Gavi to their summer transfer wish list as they prepare for life without Kylian Mbappe, according to a report.
Mbappe has informed PSG he will leave this summer – an exit which will save the club around €200m (£171m) per year – while a legally binding agreement between player and club will see PSG protected in the event Mbappe leaves on a free transfer.
As part of the agreement, Mbappe will return close to €80m (£69m) and so, while PSG may technically lose their star on a free transfer, his exit will not leave them out of pocket.
In anticipation of seeing a large chunk of funds freed up, PSG have drawn up a list of potential targets for this summer’s transfer window and The Athletic state that Barca midfielder Gavi features prominently.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is said to be a huge fan of Gavi, as is manager Luis Enrique, who gave the 19-year-old his senior debut for Spain.
Gavi is under contract at Barca until 2026 and has a release clause worth €1bn (£855m) in his deal.
Barca view Gavi as an ‘unsellable asset’, but the club’s well-known financial situation may force them into making some uncomfortable decisions this summer. Gavi’s interest in a transfer is not yet known.
90min understands PSG’s shortlist includes several potential targets across a number of positions, with the club also expected to pursue a new forward as a direct replacement for Mbappe.
Among those under consideration are Manchester United‘s Marcus Rashford and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, while RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is also admired.
