Premier League fixtures today

A busy Sunday in the Premier League is in store but the arrival of the third international break of the season means it’ll be the last we see of the English top flight for a little while.

While fans can take solace in knowing it’s the last round of internationals until next spring, the return of the dreaded break will undoubtedly be frustrating for sides building some momentum.

Nevertheless, the presence of four Premier League clubs in the Europa and Conference Leagues means we’ll be treated to a healthy dose of action on Sunday, and there’s a fixture that you won’t want to miss at Stamford Bridge to conclude the matchday.

Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s Premier League action.

Aston Villa were seemingly building up a head of steam before they succumbed at the City Ground last weekend. The Villans were woeful in the final third and a rare Emiliano Martinez error left Unai Emery’s side with too much work to do in the second half.

However, they’ve been nothing short of imperious on home soil so far this season and will be looking to take Fulham to the cleaners on Sunday.

Despite the defeat at Nottingham Forest, Villa sit fifth in the Premier League table and you’d be silly to bet against them when they face an underwhelming Cottagers at Villa Park.

Sheffield United finally secured their first win of the season at home to Wolves, although they were mightily fortunate to do so given the penalty they were awarded in the dying embers.

Nevertheless, it could be a significant three points for Paul Heckingbottom, who desperately needed some respite.

However, the Blades now have a tough away assignment as they travel to Brighton. While the Seagulls are winless in five Premier League games, they certainly have the capacity to flummox and overwhelm the visitors. Sheffield Utd will be hoping for some continental fatigue.

Brentford are always pesky opposition for the Premier League’s big boys, and Jurgen Klopp was left concerned by his side’s performance at Luton Town.

Liverpool were rescued late on by Luis Diaz following a frustrating afternoon in possession and in front of goal. Darwin Nunez was particularly wasteful.

The Bees will dig in and aim to contain the Reds as Luton did admirably last weekend before trying to catch the hosts out on the counter. While the visitors have the structure to stifle Liverpool, very few have success shunning the Reds at Anfield.

West Ham desperately need three points on Sunday / Alex Broadway/GettyImages

Having suffered three straight Premier League defeats, David Moyes desperately needs to oversee a victory on Sunday against last season’s worst-performing away side.

Forest have already won on their travels this season, but the lion’s share of their points are expected to arrive at the City Ground. Nevertheless, they’ll be keen to upset the odds in east London having beaten Villa last Sunday.

West Ham won at home in the Europa League on Thursday but here they will attempt to climb into the top half of the table. Forest will leapfrog the Hammers with a win.

Chelsea prevailed through the chaos on Monday night at Tottenham / Sebastian Frej/MB Media/GettyImages

While perhaps not the blockbuster it once was, this is nonetheless a fascinating fixture which sees Mauricio Pochettino and Pep Guardiola duel once more.

Many were left unimpressed by Chelsea‘s performance in their 4-1 win over Tottenham, but they should be commended for keeping their heads amid the chaos. It was an utterly ludicrous game of football.

The Blues must be more efficient in the final third if they’re to down the visitors, who have rediscovered their groove in recent outings. City have won their last three in the league and they’ll be looking to reassert their position at the top of the table.
