The annual tradition of NBA teams getting a special Nike NBA City Edition uniform continues, with the Oklahoma City Thunder unveiling theirs publicly on Tuesday. For the seventh consecutive year, these uniforms were created uniquely for every team around the league with a tie to each local community beyond the court.
“We are continuing the tradition of building between court, community and culture with all 30 teams on our City Edition platform,” said Nadia Roohparvar, the NBA’s team brand and product lead. “The City Edition uniforms will be worn on court during all NBA in-season tournament nights — a really great platform to showcase and highlight some of our really amazing City Edition work.”
For Oklahoma City specifically, fans will get their first look at those new uniforms this Sunday, Nov. 17 against the Dallas Mavericks. As announced by the Thunder, the 2024-25 version of the uniform’s design completes a two-year story arc reflecting Oklahoma City’s evolving landscape, growth, and momentum.
“The 24-25 City Edition Uniform is an expression of Oklahoma City’s progression and unique cultural renaissance stemming from the optimism inherent in Oklahoma’s people and heritage,” said Brian Byrnes, Thunder senior vice president of Business Operations. “It pays tribute to the innovators that have shaped Oklahoma’s culture and are pushing it forward.”
What makes this new jersey different from many past iterations is that it simply spells ‘Oklahoma’ across the chest for just the second time in franchise history, rather than ‘Oklahoma City’ as it traditionally would. That chestmark reigns from the same arch as seen in the original 2008 uniform when the franchise relocated to the state.
The vibrant color schemes in the piping, chest mark, and numbers represent Oklahoma City’s energy as well as the bright and optimistic art commonly found throughout the community. The unique side panel that stretches down the jersey and shorts is custom-made and consists of various elements of Thunder logos and wordmarks. The elements overlap representing how progression is the result of layering collective experiences, contributions, and perspectives. The waistband of the shorts features the state’s outline which speaks to the pride in Oklahoma’s roots, what it is today, and its trajectory into the future.
The Thunder will once again lean fully into the City Edition concept, hosting City Nights theme games during Sunday home games, during which the team will wear this uniform and play on their City Edition court. Ahead of these special nights, fans can purchase City Edition merchandise to match the team.
The Thunder has started the season hot, posting a 9-2 record which is good for the top spot in the Western Conference. Although Chet Holmgren’s hip injury will bring much adversity in the coming months, this team is still a contender with plenty to prove this season. With Isaiah Hartenstein and Jaylin Williams set to return in the coming weeks, this OKC squad should have plenty of firepower to maintain a quality record and be one of the best teams in the NBA. In the meantime, the NBA Cup is on the horizon and the competition will really begin to get even more significant.
