Manga creator Shinsuke Kondō posted on his X/Twitter account on Tuesday an apology that his Ninja vs. Gokudo manga is still on hiatus after half a year (the manga’s 146th and latest chapter debuted on March 23), and explained that he is still grappling with mental health issues. He elaborated that he is not particularly depressed, but he cannot concentrate and work on storyboards.

Upon consulting with psychosomatic medicine experts, he learned that he was in a long stretch of the depressive phase of his bipolar disorder. He is currently trying different methods to deal with his condition, including adjusting his medication dosage, doing illustrations, and going on activities as a change of pace. He reported that he has finished the manuscript for the 147th chapter of Ninja vs. Gokudo, and will resume the manga once he is finished storyboarding the 148th chapter.

Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the manga digitally in English, and it describes the story:

Since before the dawn of memory, one thing has defined human history: the war between ninjas and yakuzas. This coarse and manly manga follows two members of these warring tribes who fill the gutters of modern Tokyo with blood to determine which elemental force will reign supreme!

Kondō launched the manga on Kodansha‘s Comic Days website in January 2020. Kodansha published the manga’s 17th compiled book volume on April 18. Kodansha USA Publishing released the 13th volume in English on May 19.

The manga inspired a television anime that premiered in October 2025. Amazon Prime Video streamed the anime worldwide, and also streamed a same-day English dub.
