Mortal Kombat is notorious for picking any licensed IP character it wants as a fighter and…getting them. Really anyone it wants has landed on the roster eventually, and this time around for Mortal Kombat 1, it includes two popular supervillains posing as superheroes. Both starring in Amazon Prime shows.
That would be Homelander from The Boys and Omni-Man from Invincible. The Boys has had three seasons and is currently airing its Gen V spin-off, while Invincible is just about to start airing its second season after a lengthy delay.
While any fighter has a chance against another fighter in Mortal Kombat itself due to you know, character balancing, this has once again raised the question of who would win in a fight, Homelander or Omni-Man?
This is…not really a debate. If you know anything about either universe, you know the answer is Omni-Man. Yes, Homelander is vicious, and he can kill other heroes on The Boys. Though arguably he’s often not even the strongest hero in his own universe, as plenty of others go toe-to-toe with him even if no one manages to kill him outright.
Omni-Man is an entirely different animal, in a league so far beyond Homelander it’s not even close. This is a man (well, an alien) who was sent to kill entire worlds by himself. If you’ll recall, Homelander once let an entire plane of passengers die because he couldn’t actually save it. He has limits that are far below what Omni-Man is capable of.
The “what if Homelander fought X?” format has been a meme for a while now, and I’ve seen (probably AI-based) art showing Homelander killing the Justice League which…also would not happen. Look, I get that Homelander is a force to be reckoned with within his own series, but in the larger context of all superhero universes, no, he has nothing on the strongest entities elsewhere, Omni-Man included.
Mortal Kombat 1 has done a brief feature on Omni-Man and his in-game moves which include some of his most brutal moments straight from the show (seen above), including the infamous “put Mark through the passenger train” one that works as a fatality here. Very cool to see.
I’m sure Homelander will also be fun to play as in Mortal Kombat 1, but if we’re doing this whole debate, yeah, it’s not a contest. We’ll see what other havoc Omni-Man wreaks soon enough here when Invincible returns.
