It is the largest donation ever received from a private individual in the organization’s 43-year history.
Jordan hopes his decision to celebrate his birthday by donating to Make-A-Wish will inspire others to help make wishes come true for children still waiting.
“For the past 34 years, I have had the honor of working with Make-A-Wish and helping so many children smile and be happy,” Jordan said. “Their testimony of strength and resilience during such a difficult time in life has been truly inspirational.”
Jordan, who is now the owner of the NBA team Charlotte Hornets, first supported Make-A-Wish in 1989.
He has granted hundreds of wishes to children around the world and remains one of the most sought-after celebrity wish-granters. In 2008, he was appointed as the main ambassador of “Make-A-Wish” wishes for his “life-changing impact on the children who made wishes and their families”.
“I can’t think of a better birthday present than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of making a wish come true,” said Jordan.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in the United States of America that helps make wishes come true for children between the ages of 1.5 and 18 with critical, life-threatening illnesses.
Make-A-Wish was founded in 1980 and is headquartered in Phoenix.
The organization has 59 chapters throughout the United States and operates in nearly 50 other countries around the world.
