Miami Beach revokes a proclamation that October 13 would be Sean Diddy Combs Day, three months after the disgraced rapper’s South Beach home was raided as part of a federal sex-trafficking investigation.
A proclamation originally declared in Miami Beach, Florida, on October 13, 2016, that the date would be known as “Sean Diddy Combs Day,” the Miami Beach Commission has rescinded that recognition three months after Combs’ South Beach mansion was raided as part of a federal sex-trafficking investigation. The commission revoked the proclamation on Wednesday, June 26, without discussion.
“Upon reflection, the Mayor and City Commission have determined that recognizing October 13, 2016 as ‘Sean Diddy Combs Day’ is no longer in harmony with the City’s values of safety, community well-being, and respect, and wish to rescind the proclamation,” reads a statement from the Miami Beach Commission.
The rapper faces several lawsuits containing accusations of sexual assault, and a federal investigation into alleged sex trafficking, though Combs has yet to be criminally charged. Federal agents raided his Miami mansion in March, as well as his home in Los Angeles, in connection with the investigation.
Last month, a surveillance video from March 2016 surfaced that shows Combs attacking then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. The video portrays events described in Cassie’s lawsuit filed against Combs late last year, which was settled only a day after it was filed. Combs publicly acknowledged the incident in an apology video after the footage circulated online and in the media.
Combs’ ties to Miami date back nearly 25 years, from his early nightclub appearances and high-profile parties, to holding the inaugural REVOLT Music Conference in the city. It was at the third REVOLT Music Conference in 2016 that Mayor Philip Levine proclaimed that October 13 would be “Sean Diddy Combs Day.”
Earlier this month, NYC Mayor Eric Adams rescinded the key to the city that Combs had been presented with last fall. Notably, Diddy has also been recognized with keys in Chicago, Miami, and Miami Beach. It remains to be seen if these cities will follow suit and revoke the honor.
