Meghan Markle appeared as a silent background extra in a promotional video on social media for the latte startup Clevr—in which she is an investor—in a surprise and cheeky return to the camera by the Duchess of Sussex on Tuesday night.
Key Facts
Clevr posted the promotional video on its Instagram page on Tuesday in which the company’s co-founder, Hannah Mendoza, offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the company’s headquarters and its “amazing team.”
The post thanked the company’s customers for keeping them busy ahead of the holidays, adding they “Had to call in some reinforcements.”
The Duchess of Sussex is seen taking on various office roles in the background of the clip, including being part of the fulfillment crew and typing away at a computer.
What To Watch For
Although Markle hasn’t explicitly spoken about returning to acting, the former Suits star said she was working on several “exciting things” as part of her and her husband Harry’s production company, Archewell Productions. Appearing at Variety’s Power of Women event last month, she told a reporter that she can’t wait to announce what they have been working on and are “really proud of what we’re creating.” A deal between Spotify and the Sussexes fell through in June after The Archetypes podcast hosted by Meghan aired only 12 episodes. At the time both sides said they had “mutually agreed to part ways.”
Key Background
Markle announced her investment in the startup in late 2020, saying: “This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritizes building community alongside her business.” The size of the investment was not disclosed at the time. Since then, Mendoza has praised Markle for being the company’s “first investor, adviser and biggest Clevr advocate.”
