Mariah Carey is still dominating headlines for setting a new Spotify single-day streams record with “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” But a closer look at the data behind the 1994 track shows that it’s smashing records on a number of other platforms as well.
We reported yesterday on the latest Spotify consumption feat for “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which scored nearly 24 million streams on Christmas Day, according to Chartmetric data.
While impressive, the much-touted stat – besides adjacent figures like the astonishing 641.82 million Spotify streams the song’s added during the past two years and the roughly 100,000 playlists now featuring the track – paints only a partial picture of the perennial holiday favorite’s actual reach.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” YouTube Views Approach 200 Million
On YouTube, for instance, the official audio-only upload of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has garnered 29.8 million views during the past month to near 200 million overall views, Chartmetric data shows.
Bigger picture, that’s up from approximately 10.13 million YouTube views in January of 2019, 40.72 million in January of 2020, 71.84 million in January of 2021, 102.79 million in January of 2022, and 156.51 million in January of 2023.
Of course, the accelerating growth – which fueled a 1,850 percent boost between January of 2019 and this point in December – suggests that the view count is poised to keep on ascending rapidly.
Meanwhile, the total doesn’t include the 781 million YouTube views behind the track’s music video or the 545 million views attributable to the “Make My Wish Come True Edition,” to name some.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” Shazams Top 520,000 – During the 2023 Holiday Season Alone
Chartmetric data also indicates that “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” notwithstanding its decades of popularity and its in-chorus title, has racked up a whopping 521,400 Shazams between November 27th and December 27th.
A combined total of north of 70,000 of these Shazams arrived on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, per the displayed figures. Overall, fans have used Apple-owned Shazam to identify “All I Want for Christmas Is You” 6.4 million times by the data platform’s count.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” Pandora Plays Crack 300 Million
Lastly, Mariah Carey’s top-selling Christmas song now has 302.86 million streams on Pandora, with an increase of 16.2 million attached to the sum for the past month or so, per Chartmetric. And since January of 2021, the total has climbed from 237.64 million. For reference, Pandora is said to have had 46.5 million monthly active users (MAUs) during the third quarter of 2023.
Making the Pandora showing of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” more interesting yet, the MAUs figure marks a year-over-year decline of about 2.3 million, with total listening hours having slipped from 2.75 billion to 2.64 billion across the same periods.
