A Sydney man has been charged with domestic violence offences after he allegedly poisoned his wife with an insecticide.
NSW Police arrested the 61-year-old at a property in St Andrews on Tuesday morning.
Police have alleged he slipped insecticide into his wife’s tea while he prepared it for her last month.
The 66-year-old woman later became seriously ill after she drank the tea.
Following the man’s arrest, officers also seized a bottle of an insecticide at the St Andrews home.
The bottle has been sent for forensic examination.
The man has been charged with cause poison to be taken with intention to murder (DV), use poison so as to endanger life (DV), and use poison so as to inflict grievous bodily harm (DV).
Police established Strike Force Southport last month to investigate the alleged poisoning.
He was refused bail and is expected to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today.
