Philadelphia’s Made in America music festival, which would have featured headliners Lizzo and SZA, was canceled suddenly on Tuesday, citing ‘severe circumstances outside of production control.’

Philadelphia’s Made in America music festival was canceled suddenly on Tuesday in a post on official social media accounts and on the company’s website. Organizers said the festival will not occur “due to circumstances outside of production control.” The festival would have featured headliners Lizzo and SZA, but a source reports that “ticket sales were not good.”

The post says that all ticket holders will be refunded at the original point of purchase and that organizers plan to bring the festival back to the city next year.

“Due to severe circumstances outside of production control, the 2023 Made in America festival will no longer be taking place,” reads the post. “This decision has been difficult and has not been made lightly nor without immense deliberation.”

“Made in America has a legacy of delivering exceptional experiences for music fans and concert-goers, and it is our commitment to always deliver a top-tier experience,” the post continues. “We look forward to returning to Benjamin Franklin Parkway and the great city of Philadelphia in 2024.

While the post does not provide many details as to why organizers canceled the festival, Lizzo has been the subject of significant media controversy after former dancers accused the singer of harassment.

“I’m disappointed to hear that the 2023 Made in America festival will no longer be taking place,” tweeted Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney. “Since 2012, Made in America has grown into a Philly tradition on Labor Day Weekend celebrating music and promoting worthwhile social causes.”

In addition to headliners Lizzo and SZA, the 2023 edition of the festival would have featured performances from Ice Spice, Latto, Miguel, Tems, Metro Boomin, Coi Leray, Lil Yachty, Doechii, Lola, and many more.
