Liverpool have released a statement condemning the damage caused to the Manchester United team bus prior to Sunday’s game.
Videos circulating on social media on Sunday showed a glass bottle being thrown at the Man Utd team bus outside of Anfield ahead of the Premier League clash. The bottle appeared to smash a part of a window on the upper deck of the bus.
In a statement released by Liverpool following the incident, the club have confirmed that they are working with the Merseyside Police in order to identify the culprit of the “reprehensible behaviour”:
“Liverpool Football Club utterly condemns the actions that led to damage being caused to the Manchester United team bus during its arrival at Anfield this afternoon.
“We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police, to fully investigate and identify those responsible.
“Any individuals found guilty of this reprehensible behaviour will also face the full force of the club’s sanction process.”
The incident occurred prior to Liverpool and Manchester United’s rather drab 0-0 draw at Anfield on Sunday. The result has seen the Reds drop down to second in the Premier League table, one point behind new leaders Arsenal after their 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium earlier on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool and Arsenal are set to face off against one another in a potential early title-decider at Anfield on Saturday 23 December.
