Liverpool fixtures: Next six games after stunning Newcastle win

Liverpool fixtures: Next six games after stunning Newcastle win

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

Liverpool were nowhere in the first half. Lost in the St. James’ Park cauldron, their chances of securing three points were seemingly dashed within a couple of chaotic first half minutes.

A loose Trent Alexander-Arnold touch allowed Anthony Gordon to run through and open the scoring before Virgil van Dijk received his marching orders for a challenge on Alexander Isak. That was it. Game over. Avoiding humiliation was surely the primary goal.

But Liverpool hung in. The Magpies lost their ruthless edge and allowed the Reds to stick around. Still, overturning their deficit was a prospect nobody foreshadowed. However, a pair of almost identical Darwin Nunez strikes saw Liverpool pull off the seemingly impossible.

It was a quite remarkable result for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and here’s what their upcoming schedule looks like.

Another tricky assignment awaits Klopp’s side, but they’ll have Anfield on their side as Unai Emery’s Villans come to town.

It was a tough start to the 2023/24 season for Aston Villa after they were thumped by Newcastle on matchday one, but they’ve responded well and racked up back-to-back wins to get their campaign up and running.

Emery will now be hoping to guide Villa to their first victory at Anfield since 2014.

The Reds are back on the road after the international break as they face Gary O’Neil’s Wolves in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

These two sides saw plenty of each other last season as they were drawn together in the FA Cup, and their first meeting of the campaign arrives early on.

Wolves have won just one of their last 11 outings against Liverpool, but O’Neil has got the West Midlands outfit believing.

Liverpool’s Europa League campaign then gets underway with the first matchday of the group stage scheduled for 21 September.

The Reds’ opponents have not yet been disclosed, with the group stage draw taking place following the conclusion of the play-offs on Friday 1 September.

Klopp will almost certainly use this competition to show off the club’s emerging young talent.

Another big domestic encounter awaits after their opening Europa League group stage game.

Perhaps buoyed by their Europa Conference League triumph in June, West Ham have started the 2023/24 campaign in fine fettle, beating both Chelsea and Brighton 3-1.

The Hammers look to have shrewdly replaced Declan Rice in midfield, and they’ll undoubtedly be out to frustrate Klopp’s men on Merseyside.

Klopp probably won’t have much time for the Europa League, and he’ll have even less for the Carabao Cup – a competition the Reds won in 2022.

The Liverpool boss will rotate heavily in the early rounds, no matter who the Reds face, with their qualification for the Europa League meaning they’ll join this competition with the rest of the Premier League’s big boys in the third round.

Liverpool’s tricky run of Premier League fixtures continues against another side who have started the season strongly.

Tottenham are now an outfit unrecognisable to recent iterations thanks to Ange Postecoglou, who has immediately endeared himself to the fanbase. Spurs have purred through three games and accumulated seven points.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be rocking for Liverpool’s visit, although they have never beaten the Reds inside their new home.
