Lana Del Rey and Quavo’s new hit, produced by Andrew Watt, isn’t the summer collaboration you might have expected. But ‘Tough’ still packs a punch.

Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt is making a big splash this summer. Hot on the heels of producing Peso Pluma’s latest album, which features vocals by Quavo, the Watt-produced collaboration between Quavo and Lana Del Rey is finally out. “Tough,” which garnered a significant amount of buzz in the past month leading up to its release, is the highly anticipated summer collab between the songstress and the rapper-producer.

Showcasing the chart-topping sensibilities that earned Watt a win for Producer of the Year at the 2021 Grammys, the track also displays the producer’s skills in uniting the two globally renowned artists’ distinct styles. This isn’t a process new to Watt, who successfully united artists like Elton John and Britney Spears for their 2021 hit, “Hold Me Closer,” and Lady Gaga and The Rolling Stones for “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” from the latter’s latest album Hackney Diamonds, which Watt solely produced.

The release adds to an already enormously successful few years for Watt, who has worked with a wide-ranging roster of stars including Ozzy Osbourne, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Paul McCartney, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, and Sam Smith. Watt’s position is fully cemented as a go-to producer for music’s upper echelon.

Recently, Watt co-wrote and produced Dark Matter, Pearl Jam’s 12th studio album, released in April. That album rose to No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts.

Last year, Iggy Pop’s long-awaited 19th studio album, Every Loser, introduced the world to “The Losers,” Iggy’s backing studio and touring band, which includes Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Duff McKagan, Josh Klinghoffer (studio only) and Matt Clifford (tour only). Last summer also saw a slew of record-breaking releases in which Watt had a hand, including Post Malone’s latest album AUSTIN, The Kid Laroi’s single “Forever and Again,” and Jungkook’s “Seven,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Lana Del Rey and Quavo’s “Tough” is out now on all streaming platforms.
