Jungkook beats BTS with more monthly Spotify listeners on the strength of his latest single without releasing a solo album.

BTS’ Jungkook continues to prove his power as a solo artist. According to Spotify data, the K-pop star has 35.5 million monthly listeners on the music streaming platform. In contrast, superstar group BTS, of which Jungkook is a member, has 35.1 million monthly listeners — meaning he has dethroned his own band’s monthly listener count without releasing a solo album.

Jungkook has seen incredible success this month following the release of his hit single “Seven,” featuring American rapper Latto, on July 14. Spotify data reveals the track gained over 15 million streams on its debut day, enough to make it the most significant 24 hours for a song debut on the platform.

“Seven” also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and held the No. 1 position on the Spotify Global Top 50 for the past five weeks. The track has seen over 413.3 million streams on Spotify alone.

Notably, despite their phenomenal success, neither Jungkook nor BTS feature in the top 50 most monthly listeners on the platform. However, BTS is the eleventh most-followed artist on Spotify and the most-followed ensemble group.

While BTS is on hiatus to allow some of its members to fulfill mandatory military service in their home country of South Korea, HYBE Corporation notes its strategy to rely on the solo releases of members like Jungkook, Jimin, Suga, and Jin to satisfy the group’s fans until BTS reconvenes in 2025.

That plan initially failed to reassure HYBE’s shareholders, with the company’s share price reaching an all-time low in October 2022, the same month that HYBE confirmed the BTS hiatus. But since then, HYBE has proven its ability to generate significant sales during the absence of BTS, with its biggest-selling groups SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER, in addition to solo releases from Jungkook and other BTS alums.
