Introducing the Riga summer cultural program and preparation for the XVII General Latvian Song and XVII Dance Festival

LATVIA, RIGA – On Thursday, April 13, the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of the Riga City Council will hear two important reports – on the preparation of the 2023 Riga summer cultural program and on Riga’s participation in the preparation and conduct of the XVII General Latvian Song Festival and XVII Dance Festival.

“Both reports highlight the important work that has been done and that is yet to be done for Riga in the coming months, in order to please both residents of Riga and domestic and foreign guests, not only in the center, but also in the neighborhoods,” emphasizes committee chairman Laima Geikina.

At the meeting of the committee, a report will be presented on the preparation and progress of the 2023 Riga summer cultural program. There will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the diverse program of events, planned for two months from July 10 to September 1, during which we will also celebrate Riga’s birthday in August. The program is planned according to the concept of “Riga Summer of Courage and Joy” started in 2022.

At the meeting of the committee, the members and those present will be introduced to the participation measures of Riga as a strategic partner of the organizer of the Song Festival and the XVII Dance Festival – the Latvian National Cultural Center – in the preparation and running of the festival, the participants and those involved in the festival from the amateur art collectives of the municipality of Riga, as well as municipal institutions, and will be provided information on how the festivities are planned in Riga.

At the meeting of the committee on Thursday, it will also decide on the creation of a commission for the allocation of co-financing for the implementation of other cultural and artistic events and will examine the regulations of several Riga schools.
