How To Get A Foul Invoker Of Varshan For Diablo 4’s Malignant Echo Fight

Foul Invoker

Blizzard

I have been breezing through Diablo 4’s Season of the Malignant pretty smoothly for the most part of the course of the last two days, but once the seasonal storyline ended, I ran into a problem that I wasn’t sure how to fix.

At the end of the storyline, you get something called an Invoker of Varshan, which the game tells you that you can use to fight an Echo of Varshan, essentially a replay of the boss fight. He’s found behind a certain door at the end of a few Malignant tunnels.

But if by the time you’ve beaten the story you’re on World Tier 3 (which many will be) you will open that door and your Invoker will not work. You need something called a Foul Invoke of Varshan, which will not appear at your crafting table either.

So what’s going on? It’s a bit of a bizarre situation. To fix this problem, you have to do something the game does not make clear whatsoever. You must scale back down to World Tier 1 or 2, go back to the Malignant Tunnel and re-do the whole process, this time actually being able to summon Varshan with your Invoker.

Then this will unlock the ability to fight Varshan on World Tier 3 after you craft a Foul Invoker, which uses a regular Varshan Invoker plus some Sigil Dust. That fight is much harder, however, so be ready.

Here’s a map of where a Malignant Tunnel that contains the Varshan door is. I believe there are a few tunnels around the map that have access to him, but definitely not all of them.

I have no idea why this was structured this way and it definitely feels like an oversight. There’s nothing tell you that you need to beat this on World Tier 2 first, it’s just telling you that you need an upgraded version of the Invoker with no actual path to get it.

I also assume the next level is true, where to get the ability to craft the next kind of Invoker, you will have to beat Varshan on World Tier 3 first. Obviously it takes quite a bit longer to get to World Tier 4 so you may have already done that by then, but just in case, I’m sure it’s the same.

Hopefully this helped you out of a jam and gotten you through a few more Season Journey completions.
