Lil Wayne has disputed reports that his net worth is over $160 million, saying the reality is nothing close to that estimate.
Lil Wayne sat down for an interview with Culture Millennials, where he cleared up some misconceptions about his reported net worth. While reports estimate his net worth is over $160 million, the rapper insists he doesn’t “have a cent” close to that amount.
“Honestly, I’m gonna let everybody know now,” says Wayne. “When you go check a motherf***er’s net worth, that shit be saying some crazy numbers. I don’t have a cent close to that shit.”
“I don’t have that, but I guess they be meaning that’s what I’m worth,” he continues. “So I be always calling my agent and being like, ‘I’m telling you, bro, I’m gonna fire the shit out of you ’cause I don’t need you.’ I googled that, you know what I mean? (…) It’s motivation, that’s all. It’s just motivation.”
According to Forbes, in 2012, Weezy’s net worth was reported to be $27 million, but the outlet has since updated his real-time earnings. Lil Wayne founded Young Money Entertainment, the record label home to A-list hip-hop artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Mack Maine, and Cory Gunz, among many others. The label has released 15 studio albums that reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Wayne’s comments follow the heels of Forbes‘ latest estimate of Jay-Z’s net worth, which now reportedly stands at a whopping $2.5 billion — nearly double the $1.4 billion estimate just last year. This number makes the Brooklyn native one of the wealthiest people in the world.
“Even in a year without a tour or album release, Jay-Z mints millions from his Armand de Brignac champagne and D’USSÉ cognac,” reports the media outlet. “(He) was crowned hip-hop’s first billionaire in 2019, thanks to a sprawling and diversified empire.”
