Celebrating 20 years of existence of the Ministry of Health, this g. On September 28, an important international conference with discussion sessions “People – the value of Latvian health industry”* will be held in Riga, Elizabetes Street 55. The conference is organized by the Ministry of Health and the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
Physicians, health care workers, health care policy makers, representatives of public organizations, as well as participants from Lithuania and Estonia are invited to participate in the conference. Participants will get further education points, which are essential for the professional qualification of medical personnel. The conference will take place in person and you can also watch it online. Participation is free, but registration is required in advance.
In 2023, the Ministry of Health has especially emphasized the issue of value-based and patient-centered healthcare, which is the basis of a quality treatment process. Presentations will be made at the conference by international experts – Head of the WHO Office of Quality of Care and Patient Safety and Special Advisor to the Regional Director in Athens João Joaquim Rodrigues da Silva Breda, President of the Beryl Institute from the USA Jason Wolf, Continuum of Care Quality and Patient Safety Improvement Platform Head of Improvement and WMTY Global Network Ambassador Mathieu Louiset from Belgium, Healthcare Safety Researcher from UK Rosie Benneyworth. From Latvia, representatives from Children’s Clinical University Hospital, Riga Stradiņš University, Riga Maternity Hospital and Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital and other specialists will give lectures. Discussion sessions on the following topics are planned during the event:
- People’s experience in health care;
- Experience of healthcare workers;
- Patient safety culture;
- Data-driven improvement of healthcare services.
Questions about improving the human experience, measurement of patient experience in hospitals, psycho-emotional support for employees, patient safety culture will also be touched upon. Also, video stories of the experiences of several Latvian hospitals will be shown during the conference.
Participation in the international conference has been confirmed by many former ministers of health, who will share their vision of the most important steps for sustainability and development in health care. This year marks 20 years since the establishment of the Ministry of Health.

I would like to thank everyone working in the industry, who with their work has contributed to the improvement of the quality and availability of public health and healthcare services. Your daily work not only provides help to our people today, but also strengthens Latvia as a prosperous country where our children will live in future generations,” emphasizes Health Minister Līga MenĆgelsone.
