Erling Haaland may have returned to scoring ways in midweek action, but he’s not winning the popularity stakes as far as captaincy for FPL Gameweek 10 is concerned.

The Norwegian faces a tricky trip to Old Trafford for the Manchester derby this weekend and with a number of other assets performing well, should managers be considering other top picks to skipper their sides?

We’ve picked out the top captain selections for FPL Gameweek 10 as decided by Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool.

Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland has struggled to live up to his incredibly high standards in recent FPL outings, with just two goals in his last four games and only five shots on goal in that time, but AI puts that down to variance and still selects him as the top captain pick for FPL Gameweek 10.

Haaland remains the top goalscorer in the Premier League this season, scoring nine from a xG metric of 8.11, and leads the way for big chances (15). He is City’s penalty taker and has performed previously in this fixture, with three goals and two assists in two appearances.

Mohamed Salah

AI places Mohamed Salah as the second best captain pick for FPL Gameweek 10, but in reality he’s likely to be the most captained player among engaged managers after chalking up a leading 75 points this season. With four double digit hauls in his last five appearances, he also leads the way for shots on goal, with 15 in the last four gameweeks.

A home game against Nottingham Forest certainly helps his cause, having scored in every league game at Anfield this season. Forest have struggled on the road this season, conceding two at Arsenal and Manchester City and three at Manchester United.

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins also provides a significant captain option for FPL this weekend after registering a leading tally of 48 FPL points in the last four gameweeks. He’s a formidable force when on a hot streak, with ten attacking returns in five games. He’s also top for shots in the box in that time.

Home comforts should suit him, having delivered an attacking return in every game at Villa Park this season. He has double digit hauls in his last two home appearances, netting 23 points against Brighton and 11 points against West Ham. Opponents Luton Town are still looking for their first clean sheet of the season.
