Authorities have downgraded a bushfire warning for Flagstone, near Jimboomba about 50 kilometres south-west of Brisbane to advice level.
Key points:
- A large fire is burning near Jimboomba
- The fire has been downgraded to advice level
- The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have advised residents to continue to monitor conditions
They had earlier urged residents to prepare to leave on Wednesday afternoon, before the downgrade, but warned conditions could change throughout the night.
The fire is burning in the vicinity of Trailblazer Drive, Saunders Drive and Highgate Drive, Flagstone.
QFES had earlier downgraded the fire declaration at Mundoolun, Birnam and Veresdale Scrub near Beaudesert.
Earlier on Wednesday, helicopter crews water-bombed at Mundoolun, where a large fire burned at Eugenie Court near King Coolum Reserve.
Rural Fire Service Area Director Corey Bock said a shed and water tank was lost in the fast-moving fire before crews arrived.
“The good news is we saved another 15 houses in that same area,” Mr Bock said.
“The fire is on a little ridge line. It’s just outside of an estate but it is actually typically very rural, where the fire actually was located.”
Flagstone fire
Mr Bock had earlier said the Flagstone blaze been burning across 950 hectares of dense bushland.
“That one’s a little bit challenging in that it’s very difficult to get to,” Mr Bock said.
“We’ve still got some challenging weather this afternoon. But we have everyone safe at this point in time.”
Mr Bock said motorbikes and four-wheel-drivers drivers in the area were creating complications for firefighters using narrow tracks.
“If they come through at any speed, obviously, we’re doing some work in that space, and there’s a potential for an accident,” he said.
He urged drivers to take care on the roads with smoke impacting visibility.
