FC Dallas have begun making changes to their roster ahead of Major League Soccer’s Secondary Transfer Window, signing Ghanian winger Eugene Ansah.
Though the player will be unavailable until the window officially opens on July 5, Ansah can begin getting situated with the Western Conference team. He joins on a one-and-a-half year contract that includes a club option for 2025 after most recently playing in the Israeli Premier League with Hapoel Be’er Sheva, where he managed 12 goals and 10 assists in 80 appearances.
“Eugene is a quick and agile player who will help create chances for us and score goals as well,” FC Dallas head coach Nico Estévez said in Monday’s release.
“We’ve been following him for over a year, and we like that he can play as a winger and as a No. 9. I can’t wait for him to join in with the squad. We sent him a training and fitness plan so by the time he arrives he will be ready to go.”
The winger first kicked off his career at the now-defunct Sporting Lokeren of the Belgian Pro League, recording five goals and two assists in 43 before heading out to the Israeli Premier League in 2017. Since his arrival in Israel, Ansah has featured for four teams across five seasons.
The player now joins FC Dallas’ offensive line alongside Jesus Ferreria, Paul Arriola and Alan Velasco. Though the team sits in fifth place with 26 points in 18 matches and a record of 7W-6L-5D, a boost in the attack will serve Estévez well given the amount of games still left to be played.
Roster Depth will be a decisive factor for Major League Soccer teams in 2023, as clubs balance U.S. Open Cup, regular-season games and the month-long Leagues Cup tournament in July and August.
