It used to be that EA’s Madden series of video games was a pretty stellar prognosticator of Super Bowl outcomes. The very first year I posted the game’s predictions, it got the game right down to the exact score, and almost the exact running and receiving yards. It was kind of amazing, so I kept covering this year-over-year and it’s never repeated such an accurate prediction.
Since then, it’s been pretty hit-or-miss with outcomes worse than flipping a coin over the past decade. The game’s official simulation has been wrong the last three years running, in fact, predicting that the Philadelphia Eagles would beat the Chiefs in 2023, the Cincinnati Bengals would beat the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 and the Chiefs would beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. Three strikes! (I know, wrong sport).
In other words, Chiefs fans shouldn’t get too excited and 49ers fans shouldn’t be too concerned by Madden NFL 24’s prediction of a 30-28 Chiefs victory in Sunday’s big game. If the game is right, however, it will make Patrick Mahomes the third player in NFL history to win back-to-back Super Bowl MVPs.
Gamers interested in picking up a copy of Madden NFL 24 should do so before the Super Bowl, as it’s been steeply discounted on PC, Xbox and PlayStation to celebrate the championship with discounts up to 70% off.
One way or another, it looks like this could be a very close game, with no clear favorite. A good game is the best outcome for those of us who really don’t care who wins or loses!
