De La Soul implements a ‘pay what you want’ ticketing model for their upcoming show in New York City.

Hip-hop group De La Soul is offering a choose-your-own-price ticketing model for their upcoming show at the Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall in New York City. The event is set to take place on January 17 next year.

Fans are encouraged to pay a suggested price of $35, but have the option to pay more or less at the buyer’s discretion. “To make the arts more accessible, tickets are available on a Choose-What-You-Pay basis,” reads a statement posted on the Lincoln Center website.

The group, who was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is also celebrating the 35th anniversary of the release with a digital edition. 3 Feet High and Rising is the only De La Soul album to be certified platinum by the RIAA. The upcoming show in NYC marks their first in the city in almost a year and a half.

“Over the group’s 35-year career, De La Soul has collaborated with virtually every major rap artist and produced nine classic albums,” the Lincoln Center website reads. “Two recent seismic events have served to redefine the group for 2025 and beyond: the overdue addition of their stellar catalog to audio streaming services, and the untimely passing of founding member David ‘Trugoy the Dove’ Jolicoeur.”

Meanwhile, the electronic music-focused Boundary Brighton festival in the UK is running a similar pay-what-you-want promotion aimed at attendees aged 18-24 from August 14 through August 21. The festival kicks off on September 28 at Stanmer Park, and will be committing 1,000 tickets to the promotion, with prices starting at around $13 (£10).

Boundary Brighton is donating 25% of each ticket sale from that initiative to Starr Trust, its charity partner, which focuses on empowering young people.
