D.C. police said they have arrested a teenager who trafficked illegal weapons and firearms modifications in the District.
Metropolitan Police said they charged on Thursday a 17-year-old from Northwest with multiple firearms-related crimes for using social media to sell homemade guns and “auto sears,” or switches that allow semi-automatic Glock pistols to operate as fully automatic weapons.
Police said they began investigating the juvenile suspect in May after learning of a social media account that was selling the Glock switches.
Officers purchased multiple auto sears throughout the course of the investigation, according to police.
Authorities said they also learned the suspect was selling “privately made firearms” that the teen is accused of making himself. Police said the boy also was selling large capacity magazines.
Metropolitan Police said officers from its Violent Crime Suppression Division and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Homeland Security Investigations arrested the teen.
