Cyberpunk 2077 has now released its latest 2.1 patch, one that was a surprise for many given that CDPR said they were moving on from the game. A lot of this strikes me as stuff maybe they couldn’t quite get out for Phantom Liberty, but were working on all the same and wanted to get it done eventually.
There are a lot of aspects to this patch , and this early, I’ve only been able to try out a few of them. Here are my early thoughts on the patch that I think a lot of dedicated players may enjoy, even if others may not notice a lot of it.
Dating – This is what I think longtime players will like the most, the ability to just chill and hang out with your partner in a non-mission setting once you follow their romance path. In this instance, I was playing on my male V who had recently romanced Panam. You get a message from her that she wants to hang out, and you can invite her over to any apartment you own in the city.
Once there, you can chat about various mission related things including updating her on Dogtown (I think you could do this before), but different apartments have different hangout things you can do. There didn’t seem to be much in Japantown, but in my Glen apartment, we cuddled on the couch with what I thought were some new lines in there, and recreated the “hair petting” from the 2.1 trailer.
But the highlight was going to the “dance floor” in the apartment where Rosa Walton’s “I Really Want to Stay at Your House” blasted, the song having a special meaning to Cyberpunk Edgerunners viewers. You start slow, but Panam started hopping when the beat drops in the song. I swear to god I almost choked up from the whole experience.
To end the night you can go to sleep where you partner will show up in their underwear and be there the next morning for a kiss. To answer your next question, no, no new sex scenes from what I can tell, unless there’s some sort of secret trigger to unlock them. Given the context of the multiple environments and the scripting that goes into a scene like that, I wouldn’t hold your breath. So really, this is PG-rated affection which may not be what some are looking for, but it’s all really…sweet.
NCART – You will almost instantly get your NCART pass if you’re through the beginning lockdown part of the game. Here, you can now ride around the city and well, ride around the city. I am not sure why people have always asked so aggressively for this functionality, but they built it, so you better enjoy it.
You will get different trains full of different people. Johnny sat across from me in silence on one. Monks on another. You can overhear conversations from people. You can look out the window or stand near the door. You can get off at whatever stop you originally chose (though navigation is a bit confusing and if you’re actually trying to go somewhere you’ll probably just fast travel). There are probably easter eggs that happen in some train rides, I’d guess, but I didn’t see any this early on.
Bikes – The new motorcycles look cool, the new bike controls and ability to do tricks is good but there’s a learning curve, to be sure. My current V, who has an all throwing knife build, really appreciates the update that now allows him to throw knives and axes from his bike, which is really fun when combined with the on-vehicle Sandevistan. I’m not sure how practical it may be in most combat situations, but it’s cool you can do it!
The Rest – I haven’t been able to try out other additions yet, like fighting new Adam Smasher, doing replayed races or finding lookout points. But from what I’ve seen this is a neat patch full of details that I think fans will enjoy, even if it’s not transformative like some past updates have been. I appreciate the work that they did for it all the same. Check it out now.
